Step 1 To Preparing For The AWS CWI Examinations. If you have heard the CWI is difficult, it is true. There are many people who underestimate the amount of learning to be done during the 2-week course. To help our students warm up to the topics covered on the AWS CWI examinations and get ready for the CWI Preparatory, we are now offering a full week in the classroom covering introductory topics such as Welding Processes, Destructive and Non-destructive Testing and Hands-on practice with real welded samples, applying real Code criteria.
30 Days Online Pre-Course Study Prior To The Two Week In Classroom CWI Preparatory. If an instructor covering all the information and reviewing questions increases your ability to learn instead of just reading the information but still want to stay at home, try this short course layout. Videos, just like lectures in class and quizzes that can provide the repetition needed to soak up information prior to entering the classroom environment. Reminder, this is a Pre-course over major topics only.
CWI PREPARATORY COURSE - OPTION 1. This course is conducted in two consecutive weeks, Monday through Friday, with homework each night and on the weekend during the course. The first week is dedicated to learning Welding Fundamentals and how to use the API 1104 or AWS D1.1, whichever you choose to test with. The second week is dedicated to preparation for the Practical Examination and refining your test taking skills. If you prefer to have an instructor in person for the complete presentation, then this is the course for you. Remember, there is an enormous amount of information to be presented so the course will move at a moderate pace. Completion of all daily homework assignments is a must to be successful. Driving too far each day or entertaining loved ones does not allow the total focus necessary to pack all this information in with just two weeks. A tough two weeks of complete immersion in this course is required!
During this course our students not only are prepared with information to take the CWI examinations but are also given practice and coaching for test taking skills to even better prepare them for the CWI examinations. The attendee may elect to test with any of the Code book selections offered by AWS. Selection of a certain document for testing purposes does not prevent the Certified Welding Inspector from working with other Codes and Standards. If desired, after certification, further training and testing can be accomplished to acquire endorsements in all available Codes and Standards offered by AWS for testing.
If you are testing at a Real Educational Services test location, your application for AWS testing must be received by Real Educational Services, Pascagoula office, no later than 7 weeks prior to the test date. All applications for AWS testing immediately after the course is completed must be sent to Real Educational Services. Payment for both the class and the test must accompany the application submission.
For those who elect to test at a later date or those participating in online training, testing may be done at any of the AWS national examination sites. Applications for testing at AWS national examination sites must be sent directly to AWS. AWS requires applications be received not less than 6 weeks prior to their test date. Any applications received after that time will be assessed a “fast track fee” by AWS (if received inside of 6 weeks.)
30 Days Online Refresher To Re-Take The CWI Examinations. If you took one of our course options for CWI within the last year and you think all you need is a structured lesson over the topics one more time, then this is a complete re-run of the material presented in the classroom. Videos, just like lectures in class and questions through the online training will provide an opportunity to get back in the game and hone your skills for the exams.
Learn the Welding Inspector’s Job. Enjoy one full week of hands-on instruction covering all aspects of welding inspection in our shop and classroom facility in Ellijay, GA. The simulated job begins with drawings and materials and ends with NDT and hydro-testing. Qualification of a welding procedure and every stage of welding inspection will be performed and documented. Before stepping out into the world of inspection with a new CWI card, get prepared and also collect 40 hours of training toward the CWI renewal. This course is conducted in the shop and classroom so bring appropriate clothing. Pre-requisite: CWI or successful completion of the CWI Pre-Course.

The attendee will be working in the classroom and in an actual fabrication shop environment. If you are looking for a challenging course to gain renewal hours, this course will provide valuable information pertinent to welding inspection, not just hours.
Learn How To Evaluate RT Film Before Signing For It. Individuals will learn how to recognize both weld and base metal discontinuities, but more importantly, they will be able to determine radiographic quality and whether a discontinuity is acceptable or rejectable per the requirements of various referencing standards. This course is practical in nature and includes ample film viewing sessions with attention given to each attendee. Special emphasis is placed on radiographic quality requirements and the accept/reject criteria of predominantly used Codes.

We are continually improving and updating the training experience in our Virtual Training Center. Our online students have the advantage of moving to the front of the class to experience teaching in an almost personal, one on one, environment. The video and image content is high definition, bringing you up close to the tools, samples and specifications. The audio has been digitally enhanced for clarity of speech so the student doesn’t have strain to pay attention and can retain more of the critical information and successful test taking hints.
- The basic requirements for participation in the Virtual Training Center are:
• Computer with sound
• High speed internet access (HD Video – Standard Definition can be selected for improved speed)
• Confirmed email address
• Up-to-date internet browser (Firefox, Chrome, Safari, IE, etc.)
• Adobe Reader installed
• Adobe Flash installed
As with any instruction, the time and effort you put into it, determines what you get out of it! It is important for the student to schedule and dedicate the appropriate amount of time to the online courses. Also, the student will enhance their ability to pass exams by eliminating distractions and be ready to take notes with pencil and paper, preferably a notebook. The student should have the same calculator that they will use for any exam they may take with AWS. Certain courses require specific code books, publications and documentation. If these books not provided via download in the course, they are the responsibility of the student to acquire prior to starting the course. Once a student has registered and paid in full, they will be sent an email with instructions, login link, user name and password. The online courses do not provide access to the Codebook of your choice. Students need to have a printed copy for their use prior to beginning the Code section of training. AWS testing for SCWI, CWI Endorsements, CWS are now being handled by Prometrics. The student will be responsible for contacting AWS and scheduling any examinations for certification. If you need assistance, please call our office.
